Yelling Tree Press fine embroidery kits are designed by artist James Tovey in the UK. The kits include everything you need to begin embroidering – the fabric, threads, hoop, needles and guidance you need for many happy hours of stitching in which you can create a bespoke embroidered treasure.
Even if you’ve not stitched in years (or ever) we think you’ll be rather charmed by how easily you’ll be improving your embroidering. Start simple… and see how you go. And if you’ve long loved, and done, embroidery, the kits will provide masses of scope for art needlework.

Learn the craft and skill of embroidery, experiment with stitches and colours, and love the process of creating, stitch by stitch. The kits have been created with James’s outline design printed on the fabric, and he’s chosen a luxurious palette for each kit. The printed illustrated guide that comes with each kit explains the stitches, with hints and tips to help.
Are Yelling Tree Press embroidery kits for beginners?
Yes! Absolutely. Even if you stitched the entire design in simple straight stitches (up and down) or running stitch (straight stitches in a row) your kit would look smashing – we promise! So yes, they really are suitable for someone who’s only just taking their very first stitch.
The example above is stitched mainly in straight stitches. There are small ones in the centre. Elsewhere on the piece blue straight stitches have been sewn, and now the embroiderer is filling in the gaps with a purple. Around the edge is stem stitch.
Some of the stitches are suitable for complete beginners; all of the stitches will become more beautiful with practice, and if you’ve been stitching for a while you’ll probably relish the novelty of James’s designs and the scope to indulge in some focussed fine needlework. It’s up to you to make it as easy, or challenging, as you wish.
We’ve taken away the daunting prospect of the ‘blank canvas’, by providing a printed outline design. We also give the palette of threads and suggestions as to which stitches you may like to use. Then – it’s over to you – and the possibilities for creating a truly unique embroidery with your personal stamp are endless – and very enjoyable. Here’s to your adventures in embroidery.
